BIO GAS PLANT
RES is committed to address sustainable renewable energy challenges in Bangladesh. The nation is currently huge electricity shortage and the cultivated land is reducing its productivity due to extensive use of chemical fertilizer. Poultry farm initiative provides bio-gas and natural fertilizer from farm’s bi-product, hence a positive response towards sustainable environmental development within the nation. Besides, this sub-project provides financial benefit to the project. In 2013 we have constructed a bio-gas plant to use our poultry farm bi-product. This bio gas plant is used to produce gas for farm cooking and additional gas is supplied to neighboring houses which also generate revenue. We use this bio-gas instead of using normal gas and electricity. This bi-product is finally used as natural fertilizer for organic vegetable production. This bi-product can also be used as fish feed.
SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES
Women and aged are the most vulnerable members of Bangladeshi society particularly in rural areas and they need much support to protect themselves against poverty, economic disparity, social and health care issues. The project is specifically targeted for rural poor who do not have the means to fulfil basic needs such as food, shelter and health services. They include socially deprived men and women including disabled, aged, divorced, widows, landless, no means of survival, no opportunities for income and having extreme difficulties of survival with their children. Currently, on monthly basis we provide 5 kg of rice to such individuals. Many other individuals are requesting for such support. Hopefully, once we extend the project, we will be able to include more poor women and men to get the benefits from this project.
EMPLOYMENT CREATION
RES projects aim poverty alleviation of rural poor men and women through employment generation. The project provides economic and financial support to rural poor. The project helps community development and consequently national development. Initially this project has targeted one village. In later stages the project will expand to neighbouring villages and to other districts and states. RES projects are like an investment which creates job opportunities for rural poor. In addition, women and men learn poultry farming skills. At some stage they can start their own farming. It develops self-esteem among the rural poor. It positively impacts their perception as earner and respect in the family as well as in the society. Currently several people are working for the project and occasionally short-term additional workers are employed for specific job.
EDUCATION PROJECT
RES is always trying to find new ways help poor community. We have started education and scholarship fund for poor students. Poor students leave their study because their families cannot support education materials such as books, notebooks, pen, pencil, geometry box and clothes. They probably need only about $20 a year to buy these items. We provide support for 20 students each year to buy such materials. We are thinking if we can find 20 people who will be willing to provide $100 a year, we can provide scholarship to almost 100 students per year. Student will be selected based on their poverty level as well as how good their performances are in previous years. In addition we have plan for adult learning and computer training for poor students.
WATER & SANITATION
RES aims to work in the area of poverty alleviation, community-level healthcare, education, sanitation and environmental conservation. There is no supply water in rural areas. So people in villages use tube-well water. There are extreme unhealthy conditions exits surrounding the tube-well areas from where people take drinking water and water for household use. Most of the tube- wells are not made by brick. There are bad muddy conditions and grasses surrounds the tube-wells. This condition causes various diseases to the children and adult. We are looking for possible support to make brick tube-well platform in rural villages.
We are also providing tubewells with concrete platform, a much needed support such as water for rural poor.
POULTRY FARM
RES has started a poultry farm project in 2014 to addresses the challenges of income generating for the poor. The poultry farm produces egg and chickens. Currently the farm has 1000 chicken that provides about 800 eggs per day. It benefits in two ways- income through selling egg and and having bi product for fish feed, organic vegetable garden, natural fertilizer and bio-gas plant. The poultry farm also indirectly solve malnutrition problem that has been identified as one of the main issues relating to poverty. It occurs because of an inability to obtain the minimum food calorie and protein intake necessary to maintain adequate health. Malnutrition is associated with high death rate, low life expectancy, bad health and low productivity. We are planning to extend the project to 2000 chicken.
